Coir industry occupies a unique place among the rural traditional
cottage industries in India. The state of Kerala, also known as
the 'land of coconuts', is the largest producer of Coir in India.
It accounts for more than 75% of the total production. The preparation
of Coir is a lengthy process. The coconut husk is immersed in water
for rubberized about a month. Later the softened husk is beaten
to separate the fibre from the husk. This is then woven into Coir.
Coir-foam, Rubberized Coir is used to make mattresses and pillow-covers
